Emergency Care

What Does the Emergency Care Program Do?

Emergency Care is always open, providing a safe, nurturing, supportive place for a child until the child can return home or a permanent foster home or kinship placement can be found.

Who is Eligible for Emergency Care at the Salt Lake County Division of Youth Services?

  • Children in Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) care, ages 0-18, who are at risk of or who have experienced abuse, neglect or dependency
  • Only a DCFS worker or a sworn police officer can admit a child into Shelter Care.

What are the Costs to Clients?

Services are free to the family or child.
